Summary

On April 8, 1985, several witnesses in the Lozère region observed an ogive-shaped object with an irregular outline and a bright red color falling behind a mountain. Concerned it might be an aircraft in distress, they immediately informed the gendarmerie, who also confirmed the phenomenon. The investigation revealed that it was an expired marine distress flare launched without specific intent by a resident of a nearby hamlet.
