In January 1961, personnel at Patuxent Naval Air Station recorded three radar contacts with unidentified objects. The first contact showed two objects 10 miles apart, and the second indicated an object 89 miles southeast of the base, traveling at an estimated speed of 6000 miles per hour. This object disappeared 10 miles away. The third contact showed an object 8 miles northeast of the base, which made a 160-degree turn and then vanished. Radar data suggests the objects were between 3000 and 25000 feet in altitude. The information was corroborated by the FAA and the U.S. Coast Guard.
