On January 6, 1987, several witnesses in Dreux (Eure-et-Loir) observed a luminous phenomenon in a clear sky. They described a white-orange light resembling a quarter of the moon. Suddenly, the object disappeared with a loud explosion, followed by a red dot that faded. Although it is likely to have been an atmospheric entry, the detailed description and the object's reaction generated interest.
The case was classified as "B" by the GEIPAN, indicating that a conventional explanation was not ruled out, but the possibility of an unusual phenomenon was not dismissed either. The detailed account from witnesses, combined with the clear observation of the event, makes this one of the most intriguing cases in the region at that time.
