🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In August 1987, three witnesses in the Cher region of France reported a luminous phenomenon in the sky. Two described a bright white light in the shape of a cigar, while another mentioned two bright lights and a blinking red light. Although the witnesses agreed on the direction of the object, their descriptions varied significantly. The GEIPAN, the French organization responsible for investigating UFO sightings, reviewed the case decades later and concluded that while the testimonies seemed consistent, there was not enough concrete data to confirm whether it was an airplane or something unusual. The lack of angular measurements and the possibility of influence between witnesses complicate the interpretation of the phenomenon.
The investigation suggests it could have been an airplane in an unusual flight phase, with lights on that could explain the white and red lights observed. However, the absence of noise and the shape described by some witnesses raise doubts. Despite these considerations, the case was classified as "C" by the GEIPAN due to the lack of reliable information. This type of case highlights the importance of objective and detailed data in solving aerial mysteries.
