On October 20, 1988, two witnesses in Sisteron (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) observed a bright blue ball passing rapidly through the sky along a vertical trajectory. The luminous object left a trail composed of yellow and orange sparks. The phenomenon lasted only 2 to 3 seconds and was completely silent. Although it might initially appear as an unidentified object, the detailed description from the witnesses led investigators to favor the hypothesis of an atmospheric entry. This case was classified as "B" by the GEIPAN, indicating a natural and explainable phenomenon.
