In December 1988, a driver and his passenger in Saint-Philbert-de-Grand-Lieu observed an intense light illuminating the landscape. After turning off their headlights, they noticed a dark mass emitting the light and heard a faint humming sound. The light gradually disappeared toward the west, plunging the surroundings back into darkness. The testimony, although emotionally impactful for those involved, lacks precise details and there are no other witnesses.
The GEIPAN classified the case as "C" due to the lack of concrete information and the impossibility of verifying the exact date. The phenomenon could have been a luminous event behind clouds, such as debris re-entering the atmosphere, or a visual effect caused by fatigue. Despite the witness's strong impression, the case does not provide conclusive elements for further investigation.
