Summary

On the night of June 28, 1989, a witness in Les Sables d'Olonne observed a bright point moving rapidly across the horizon from southwest to northeast. The phenomenon was silent and left a halo and a smoke trail that lasted several minutes. Another witness about fifteen kilometers to the south reported a similar observation: an orange point that disappeared, leaving a small persistent cloud. Due to the alerts issued by the Brest oceanographic service about possible missile falls from the Landes Test Center, it was considered likely that both witnesses had observed one of those launches.
