🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
The case from Clermont-Ferrand on September 19, 1991, was initially classified as an unexplained phenomenon but was later reevaluated. Three witnesses contacted authorities between 5:25 and 5:40 in the morning, describing a bright point in the sky. Observers compared it to a "huge star" emitting intense white light. Despite using binoculars, no further details were obtained. With modern tools and accumulated experience, the GEIPAN concluded the observed object was Venus, a well-known and visible planet that night. The confusion is attributed to factors like fatigue, surprise, and night observation. Ultimately, the case was reclassified as a type A UFO sighting, meaning it was attributed to a misidentification.
