In October 1991, two witnesses in Lantefontaine observed a luminous phenomenon in the sky. One of them recorded with a videocamera a very bright point that appeared and disappeared. The gendarmes also noticed a fixed luminous point in the same location. When zoomed in, a sphere with two "notches" appeared, but this turned out to be an issue with the camera lens. After an astronomical investigation, it was discovered that the "star of the shepherd", Venus, was visible in that part of the sky with maximum brightness. With this information, the GEIPAN classified the case as "A", meaning completely identified.
