Summary

In May 1992, two witnesses in Seine-et-Marne observed a yellow luminous object in the sky. The first noticed it from the first floor of his house and was soon joined by a second witness. Together they saw the object elongate and follow an ascending trajectory. In a final phase, it changed direction and left a yellow trail behind. No noise was heard during the observation, which caused some confusion. The witnesses reported the incident to the gendarmerie, where a detailed procedure was recorded. The first witness also mentioned previous observations, suggesting some familiarity with aerial phenomena.

GEIPAN reviewed the case years later and concluded it was likely an airplane. Initially, the object appeared as a bright spot, similar to landing lights of an aircraft, and then turned towards the northeast. The trail it left could have formed when reaching an appropriate atmospheric layer. Although the witnesses didn't hear any sound, this is possible at great distances and depending on wind conditions. The updated review, using modern tools, allowed a better interpretation of the phenomenon, although some uncertainties remain. Ultimately, the case was classified as B, indicating a probable observation of an airplane.
