In June 1993, a witness in Fleurines (France) observed two white lights moving rapidly across the sky and the ground for over 15 minutes. No noise was heard, and no other witnesses were present. Initially classified as an unexplained phenomenon, the case was re-examined years later using modern tools and experience. Investigators concluded that the lights were reflections of laser beams in the sky, with visible ascending beams and bright spots. At the time, the witness—unfamiliar with laser technology—mistook the beams as coming from the phenomenon toward the ground. Today, with better understanding, it is clear that this was a laser experiment near the location and at the time of the sighting.
The case is interesting because it shows how the perception of an unknown phenomenon can generate strong emotions and even the illusion of intelligence behind it. The GEIPAN finally classified it as "A", meaning explained as human activity. These types of sightings, although unsettling, are common when dealing with modern technology that is not yet understood. Revisiting old files helps clarify what once seemed inexplicable.
