In June 1993, two witnesses in Jausières, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region, observed a circular object five to six meters in diameter with two tubes hanging in an inverted V shape. The object was flying horizontally at about 600 meters altitude, silently and without leaving a trail. After a sudden turn, it ascended vertically. One of the witnesses followed it with binoculars until it disappeared into a cirrus cloud, estimating its altitude at around 10,000 meters. Military maneuvers were taking place in the area, but the present officer did not see the phenomenon, which appeared unrelated to the military activities. After an investigation, including inquiries with aeromodeling clubs, the object could not be identified.
