🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In August 1993, a witness in Moselle observed a bright yellow light that appeared to spin on itself. The case was initially classified as D, but the GEIPAN reviewed it and upgraded it to category A. The witness described a luminous ball larger than a star, with a shape resembling a disk crowned by a dome or an inverted mushroom. The light slowly moved northeast and gradually dimmed. A second witness confirmed the observation from home, seeing a fixed light in the starry sky. The location and direction of the light matched the position of Venus, which was rising in the northeast at the time. The low altitude of Venus in the sky and the presence of clouds or atmospheric turbulence could explain the perception of movement and unusual shape. Although the testimonies were not entirely precise, the coincidence with Venus is very high.
