On July 29, 1994, around 3 a.m., an insomniac witness in Martigues observed from his room a round, luminous object with flickering light along its perimeter. The object remained visible long enough to intrigue the witness, who later reported the event. Although no other witnesses or physical effects were recorded, the description of the phenomenon was notable for its clarity and the unusual hour of the observation.
After a brief investigation, GEIPAN analysts concluded that the most likely explanation was the observation of a weather balloon. These objects, used for atmospheric studies, can appear luminous and reflect light in an irregular way. Despite this plausible explanation, the case remains interesting due to the precision of the testimony and the absence of other elements confirming the hypothesis.
