🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In July 1994, two witnesses in Marseille observed a strange luminous phenomenon that left them puzzled. They saw a red hemisphere twice the size of the moon that shrank and turned yellow before disappearing in a thin line of light. Unable to explain what they saw, the case was initially classified as "C" due to lack of information. However, in 2012, a reconstruction carried out at the same location and time revealed that the phenomenon coincided with sunrise and the moon's position. This astronomical coincidence, related to the saros cycle, allowed the GEIPAN to reclassify the case as "A", attributing it to a possible misinterpretation of the moon at its rising.
