A UFO case in La Reunion, France, from August 15, 1997, was reviewed and reclassified by the GEIPAN. Initially considered an unexplained phenomenon, it is now attributed to the observation of Jupiter. Two witnesses, a traveling merchant and his brother, described a luminous object that caused fear and confusion. The first saw it near the ground, while the second observed it later in the night. Despite varied descriptions, including unusual shapes and changing lights, the analysis concluded it was Jupiter. The perception of movement and form was attributed to known optical and psychological phenomena, such as the follower ball illusion and autokinetic effect. The review highlighted how psychology and context can influence what is perceived in the sky.
