Summary

On April 23, 1998, a pilot of a Boeing 727 flying toward Barcelona observed from a distance a series of blue and green lights moving at high speed. These lights suddenly disappeared after an explosion. The pilot reported the incident, which was recorded by the GEIPAN. Although initially suspected to be a UFO phenomenon, it was more likely considered to be the atmospheric entry of a space debris. This type of event, while unusual, is not uncommon and can often be difficult to identify without additional data.
