On the night of August 13, 1998, a family in Saint-Chamond (Loire) observed several luminous points in the sky. The witnesses reported three lights in yellow, red, and green colors that caught their attention. The phenomenon was brief but enough to spark curiosity. After an investigation, experts concluded that the observed points corresponded to the star Antares. Although an astronomical explanation was provided, the case was classified by the GEIPAN as "A," indicating that the possibility of an unexplained phenomenon was not ruled out.
The case was not considered a UFO sighting in the strictest sense, but its documentation highlights the importance of recording all unusual observations. The GEIPAN, responsible for studying unexplained aerial phenomena in France, always thoroughly examines each report to eliminate conventional explanations. In this case, the coincidence with Antares was key, but the clarity of the witnesses' descriptions also helped to quickly resolve the case.
