On February 1, 1999, just after 7 a.m., a dozen witnesses in two departments of southeastern France observed a large luminous ball with sparks at the back moving at high speed before disappearing. The phenomenon was silent and lasted only a few seconds. Although several witnesses reported it, there was no associated noise. Due to the descriptions provided, researchers concluded that it was likely a meteor entering Earth's atmosphere. This type of event, while unusual, is not uncommon and is often difficult to identify without physical evidence.
