On August 26, 1999, around 8:10 PM, a pilot flying to Paris observed for about five seconds a white glowing sphere descending more than 10 kilometers away from his aircraft. The object showed no signs of being a conventional phenomenon. The pilot described it clearly, which drew the attention of investigators. Despite the brief nature of the sighting, the testimony was considered relevant.
After a detailed evaluation, experts concluded that the sighting was likely a atmospheric entry, such as a meteorite or a natural object burning up as it entered the atmosphere. Although other explanations were not ruled out, this hypothesis was considered the most plausible. The case was classified as category B by the GEIPAN, indicating an observation with informative value but no conclusive elements.
