Summary

In October 2002, a couple in Aniecy observed several dark objects in the sky moving in an unusual way. The witnesses reported between 7 and 9 small dark objects slowly moving northeast, maintaining a constant altitude. Although the observation lasted about ten minutes, only one direct testimony was collected. Air authorities reported no unusual activity in the area. GEIPAN investigators considered two possible explanations: a flock of black birds and a group of balloons tied with strings. The first hypothesis didn't align well with the observed data, especially due to the unusual direction of movement. Instead, the balloons better explained the behavior, as the wind was blowing in the same direction as the movement of the objects. Moreover, the individual movements within the group fit what would be expected from balloons tied together, influenced by the local wind.
