On the night of April 2, 2004, several witnesses in the Dordogne region of France observed a very bright luminous point in the western sky. This object, which appeared to move slowly and was located about 30 degrees above the horizon, attracted enough attention to prompt the gendarmerie to investigate the scene. Upon arrival, they confirmed that the point was not an unusual aerial phenomenon, but the planet Venus, visible among the stars of the Pleiades cluster.
The confusion was understandable, as Venus can stand out among stars under certain conditions and be mistaken for an unidentified object. Investigators from the GEIPAN concluded that this phenomenon, although rare, occurs every eight years and had no connection to a UFO sighting. The case was classified as type A, indicating that it clearly relates to a known celestial body.
