🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In May 2004, two witnesses in Saint-Haon-le-Châtel (Loire, France) reported an unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP) displaying colored lights and a triangular shape. Initially classified as D (unexplained), the case was later reevaluated using new tools and experience. The witnesses, who had contacted a UFO association and the press, described an object moving irregularly with red, green, and yellow lights, along with a motor sound. Although precise data like angles or dimensions were missing, the GEIPAN considered it could be a small night VFR tourist plane. The analysis concluded that, despite some contradictions, the case fit better with a conventional explanation.
The review highlighted that several elements, such as proximity to Roanne Airport and the UAP's movement direction toward other airports, supported the plane hypothesis. Additionally, the observed lights matched aviation regulations. However, other factors, like the perception of a blue light or irregular movements, could be explained by physiological phenomena or emotional influence during observation. Ultimately, the case was reclassified as B (likely plane), though uncertainties pushed it close to category C (unusable testimony).
