On September 18, 2007, a driver in the Var region of France noticed a bright object in the sky and called her husband, who also saw it. Both described a large oval white patch moving quickly. The gendarmerie investigated but found no object fallen in the indicated area. Although the observation seemed unusual, investigators concluded the object behaved like a balloon, moving with the Mistral wind. The possibility of a scientific balloon launched from the Observatoire de Haute Provence was considered, though not officially confirmed. The case was classified as "B", meaning a likely observation of a scientific balloon.
