Summary

On a sunny day in 2007, a witness in the garden of Chatillon-sur-Chalazonne observed an unusual aerial phenomenon: a large rhombus-shaped object with multiple colors, silently flying at low altitude. Intrigued, the witness followed it by car for about 5 to 6 kilometers, taking photographs along the way. During the pursuit, the witness encountered four other people who were also curious about the same phenomenon. Although the object was lost from view when heading towards Mazerat, the testimony and images generated significant interest. The movement direction of the object aligned with the south wind recorded in Lyon, and its speed was slightly lower than the wind speed, suggesting a plausible explanation: a cluster of helium balloons.

After a detailed investigation, the GEIPAN concluded that the observed object was likely a group of helium balloons, possibly escaped from an event or used to carry a light load. Although the case had multiple witnesses and photographic evidence, the conventional explanation turned out to be the most coherent. The object showed no anomalous characteristics and its movement was consistent with weather conditions. Ultimately, the case was classified as "B", indicating an observation attributable to conventional objects. Despite its apparent mystery, the phenomenon turned out to be quite common, although sufficiently intriguing to generate curiosity and discussion.
