On October 1, 2007, a driver on the A27 highway, just 5.5 km from the Belgian border, observed an unidentified triangular object with a dark gray color. The craft had white lights on the trailing edge of its delta-shaped wings and spanned over 100 meters. The witness drove a few kilometers further and stopped on the emergency lane, about 400 meters from the object, which hovered above a field at around 100 meters altitude. After a few seconds, the object tilted and moved away at a speed of 30 to 40 km/h. Although the witness did not recognize an airplane, the possibility of an aircraft approaching Lille Lesquin Airport was considered. However, during reconstruction, an airplane was observed, but at a much higher altitude. Another hypothesis was a Thalys or TGV train, but the railway line was in a trench, making any observation impossible. Ultimately, no satisfactory explanation was found.
