🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In May 2008, a witness in Theix (Morbihan) reported a luminous object in the early morning of May 6th to 7th. The testimony reached the GEIPAN in 2009, with very few details. The report notes that Jupiter was visible in the southeast, at about 3 degrees and 48 minutes of elevation, and could have been mistaken for the object. The case is classified as B, indicating a likely confusion with the planet. The lack of detailed information makes a more precise evaluation difficult.
The perception of movement of a bright point in the sky can be misleading, especially at night. The GEIPAN suggests it could be an example of the autokinetic illusion. Although the case cannot be completely ruled out, the available evidence points to an astronomical explanation rather than an unexplained phenomenon.
