On the night of July 14, 2008, a witness in Saint-Malo observed a dark triangular object with round, non-blinking yellow-orange lights at each corner. The object moved silently in a southwest to northeast direction and disappeared before the witness could go outside to see it clearly. Although only one testimony was collected, the weather conditions were ideal: clear sky, good visibility, and low ambient light. Additionally, the light wind matched the object's trajectory.
The GEIPAN concluded that the witness most likely saw several Thai lanterns, launched during the eve of a national celebration. These luminous balloons, carried by the wind, could have created the illusion of a single large object. Given the festive date and the description of the lights, the most plausible explanation points to a weather-related phenomenon linked to celebrations, not an unexplained one.
