🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
An interesting case from the GEIPAN in France dates back to October 2, 2008. A citizen, after acquiring a new camcorder, conducted tests by filming a helicopter. Upon reviewing the footage, he noticed the constant presence of a gray sphere throughout the recording. Although the video was not shared publicly, it is considered a good example of this kind of case. The GEIPAN concluded it was likely an insect or bird passing very close to the lens, unnoticed by the operator.
This type of phenomenon is relatively common with digital compact cameras, whose short focal length allows small objects to be captured clearly, unlike in older formats where they would often appear blurred or lost in the background. Modern technology, while useful, can also produce misleading images that require careful analysis to avoid misinterpretations.
