Summary

On February 11, 2009, a witness in Saint-Cyprien observed a particularly bright object in the west. Initially seen with the naked eye, then through binoculars and finally with the zoom of a camcorder, the object intrigued the observer. A few days later, in another location, a similar observation was made. After investigation, it was determined that the object was Venus, which was unusually visible during that time of year. Although initially puzzling, the astronomical explanation proved clear and convincing.

The case was classified as "A" by the GEIPAN, indicating an unusual phenomenon with a plausible explanation. The observation of Venus, though common, can be surprising if not immediately recognized. This type of case highlights the importance of astronomy in interpreting night-time phenomena that, without knowledge, might seem unexplainable.
