On February 28, 2009, in a ski resort in Auvernia, several witnesses observed two spherical lights of different sizes. These lights moved across the mountainous terrain and were captured in numerous photos and videos. Although the case was reported to the GEIPAN almost two years later, the images helped locate the phenomenon on the ski slopes. Investigators considered that one of the lights could be the headlight of a ski slope maintenance vehicle, and the other, an illuminated balloon, commonly used during the high ski season.
