Summary

In July 2009, an observer in Croignon (Gironde) witnessed an unusual luminous phenomenon. While relaxing on a chaise longue watching the stars, a very bright ball appeared behind a shed. The ball moved silently, rising and falling about 2.50 meters above the ground. The ball, white and pale yellow in color, passed over the witness, who remained lying down. The object shone like the sun and emitted luminous rays. Although no storm was reported at that time, it was warm and there had been thunder earlier in the day. A lightning expert confirmed it was a fireball, a rare but real phenomenon. The GEIPAN classified the case as "A", meaning fireball observation.
