During the early morning of August 7, 2009, several witnesses in Orleans, France, observed two luminous objects of spherical shape and reddish color. These moved silently and at low speed, following parallel trajectories. Although around ten people saw the phenomenon, only one decided to give a testimony. One of the objects slowly faded out, leading investigators to consider the possibility that they were Thai lanterns, a plausible but unconfirmed explanation.
The case was classified by the GEIPAN as category B, indicating that a conventional explanation was not ruled out, but neither was an unusual interpretation. The descriptions suggest objects that seemed to hover more than fly, adding a mysterious touch to the event. Although no physical effects or interactions with the environment were recorded, the lack of noise and the slow movement generated curiosity among the witnesses.
