On August 12, 2009, a witness in Pont-de-Cheruy (France) observed two oval-shaped orange objects moving in a straight line from south to north. The 30-second observation was silent. The witness, who voluntarily reported the event to the gendarmerie, ruled out the possibility of meteors or aircraft near Lyon airport. However, the described features—color, trajectory, and lack of noise—suggest the release of luminous lanterns, similar to Thai-style ones. The absence of consistent wind does not contradict this hypothesis, and the launch site could have been near the local stadium. Due to the single testimony and low strangeness, the case was classified as a probable observation of flying lanterns.
