On October 3, 2009, a family in Nieuil-l'Espoir observed a series of bright, round objects moving quickly across the sky for about seven minutes. No sound was heard during the sighting, which added to the surprise. The objects gradually lost their brightness before disappearing completely. The gendarmerie investigated and concluded that these were Chinese lanterns launched during a celebration. A third witness, responsible for the launch, provided photos confirming the event, although the timing did not match the initial observation.
Despite the time discrepancy, the initial witnesses' description aligned with the appearance of the lanterns. The images sent by the third witness clearly showed the lanterns were launched later, around 11:00 PM, creating some confusion. Ultimately, the case was classified as a natural phenomenon, but the initial witnesses' account remained clear and consistent.
