Summary

In November 2009, a witness in Buironfosse (Aisne) observed a mysterious light moving from west to east. The GEIPAN, the French organization responsible for investigating unidentified aerial phenomena, received the testimony in December of the same year. Initially, investigators thought it might be a discotheque projector, as the case fit a series of similar observations in the area. However, after reviewing the case with new methods and software, they discovered that the description matched that of the International Space Station (ISS), which was indeed in the observed part of the sky. The witness did not mention the ISS, possibly due to surprise or fatigue, but the light's description, trajectory, and duration aligned with a known object.

After re-evaluation, the case was reclassified as PAN A, meaning it was attributed to a misidentification with a known object—in this case, the ISS. Although the testimony was not false, the witness's interpretation was influenced by subjective factors. This kind of analysis shows how modern science and technology allow for more accurate reassessments of old cases, shedding new light on phenomena that initially seemed inexplicable.
