In February 2010, two people in a kitchen in ELNE observed for two minutes a bright orange glowing object moving silently at low altitude. The object followed a straight trajectory and disappeared vertically. Although initial testimonies seemed contradictory, the description matched that of a Thai lantern. The sensation of upward disappearance is common when a lantern's flame goes out. Although the estimated direction did not exactly match the wind direction, investigators considered this due to altitude differences and witness imprecision. Given the time and location, the case was classified as a probable observation of a Thai lantern.
