🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On May 1, 2010, several witnesses in Sallanches observed a black point in the sky moving silently. Initially stationary, the object moved without making noise and was recorded by one of the witnesses. The description suggests an object lighter than air, seemingly moving with the local wind, appearing from the west and disappearing toward the south. The weather conditions that day were complex: northerly wind in Lyon, no wind in Grenoble, and westerly wind in Geneva. Although the exact wind direction in Sallanches could not be determined, hot-air balloon flights were ruled out in the area. The possibility of a helium balloon or an experimental airship was considered. The GEIPAN found no green reflections in the footage, reducing the likelihood of an unconventional object. Ultimately, the case was classified as "B," indicating a likely observation of an unidentified balloon.
