Two witnesses in Nancy observed a luminous phenomenon in the northwest sky for several consecutive nights. The light appeared fixed and slowly descended toward the horizon. Intrigued, they took photographs of the object. What makes this case interesting is not the phenomenon itself, but the witnesses' interpretation. At first glance, the image taken from the ground seemed to show a strange object, but further investigation revealed that they had actually photographed a streetlight. The confusion arose because Venus, which was the actual object they were seeing, was hidden behind a wooded hill. From the lower floor, only the artificial light of the streetlight was visible through the foliage. Despite the mysterious appearance, the GEIPAN classified the case as "A," meaning a normal phenomenon with a misinterpretation.
