Summary

On June 12, 2010, several residents of Calais observed between 10 and 15 white and orange glowing spheres in the sky. These appeared simultaneously from a single point and slowly ascended silently before disappearing. Although the gendarmerie recorded the event, they failed to contact direct witnesses. A local newspaper mentioned that someone had seen lanterns being released near a high school, suggesting the observed lights were likely Thai sky lanterns.

The GEIPAN classification of the case as "B" indicates that a conventional explanation was not ruled out. Thai sky lanterns, used in celebrations, are known for their slow ascent and visibility for hours. Despite the lack of confirmed testimonies, the description of the lights matches the behavior of this type of object. The case remains an example of how everyday events can be misinterpreted as unexplained phenomena.
