On June 4, 2010, at 23:12, a witness recorded an orange light in the sky over Gourin, in the Morbihan department of France. Another witness, who took photographs but could not provide them to investigators, described the phenomenon as "a kind of balloon containing a sort of lantern inside." Four months after the observation, the main witness was interviewed by the gendarmerie. The video attached to the gendarmerie report clearly shows a lantern of the Thai type in flight, without ambiguity. However, the origin and launch location of the object could not be determined.
The case was classified by the GEIPAN (Group for the Study of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) as "B," meaning the phenomenon was identified as a flying lantern, but with some uncertainties. Despite the clear recording, the lack of information about the launch leaves some mystery around the case. This type of sighting, although explainable, reminds us that not everything flying in the sky is easy to track, especially if it is a light and uncontrolled object.
