🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On the night of July 3, 2010, a witness in the Yonne region of France observed a red object between clouds. The object, initially stationary, moved silently toward the south before disappearing. Although the testimony is singular and limited, the characteristics of the phenomenon—such as its color and the time of year—align with those of traditional Thai lanterns, often seen during celebrations in July. Additionally, the weak and unstable wind conditions reported could explain the helical path described by the witness. The GEIPAN classified the case as level B, considering it very likely to be a flying lantern and not an unexplained phenomenon.
The lack of multiple witnesses and the limited details in the police report reduce the case's credibility. However, the most plausible explanation, given the description and festive context, points to a Thai lantern viewed from below. The B classification indicates that there are no strange or unexplained elements in the case, and therefore, it is not considered a genuine UFO phenomenon.
