🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On December 27, 2010, a driver in the Loire-Atlantique region observed an aerial phenomenon while traveling along the D937. He noticed a dark mass with yellow lights rotating, revealing around ten more lights. The event lasted between five and six seconds. The driver tried to stop to get a better look but couldn’t locate the object again. Later, he saw it flying overhead, but darkness and fog made it hard to see clearly. The engine noise was deep and constant, and he noticed a red light and a forward beam. Eventually, the GEIPAN report concluded it was likely a helicopter, given the description of the lights, the sound, and the proximity to hospitals.
The witness mentioned he thought of an airplane due to the direction of the Nantes airport, but didn’t report any unusual features contradicting the conventional aircraft hypothesis. The lights’ behavior and the slow movement of the object are consistent with a helicopter. No other witnesses or reactions from other drivers were reported, reinforcing the idea that the phenomenon was perceived as normal. For these reasons, the case was classified as B, indicating a probable observation of a helicopter. While the description may seem strange, there are no elements suggesting an unidentified object.
