On March 20, 2011, a pilot flying near Dreux, France, reported seeing a polygon-shaped object with black and some green facets. The object, estimated to be between 2 and 3 meters in diameter, appeared stationary or moving very slowly. After performing an avoidance maneuver, the pilot turned around and the object was gone. Investigators suggest it could have been a hot air balloon or solar balloon launched by amateurs. Its black color, apparent lack of basket, and size are consistent with this hypothesis. Although no other examples of such balloons were found, it is plausible that the aircraft's turbulence destabilized and rapidly brought it down. The case was classified as B, indicating a plausible but unconfirmed explanation.
