On August 26, 2011, a witness and his wife in Marne observed a slow-moving luminous phenomenon descending in the sky. The two-minute duration and behavior of the object suggested it could be the atmospheric reentry of a satellite or space debris. However, no other witnesses were recorded in the area, indicating the phenomenon was highly localized. Although the movement could be explained by aerostats, variations in shape, color, and intensity made exact identification difficult. Additionally, the objects did not move at the same speed or follow the same trajectory, especially one that crossed the witness's field of view much faster than the others.
The possibility of a civilian or military aerial exercise near the BA112 base was not ruled out, but could not be verified. Despite the apparent strangeness of the case, the lack of precise data prevents a firm conclusion. A field investigation to better assess the trajectories and orientations is recommended. In the meantime, the case is classified as C, pending additional information.
