🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
In August 2011, a witness in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence observed several lights that eventually merged into a single fixed bright point before disappearing. The case was reported five months later to the GEIPAN, the French unit responsible for investigating unidentified aerial phenomena. Although the testimony is consistent and detailed, investigators consider two possible explanations, albeit unlikely: model aircraft and "Thai lanterns". To clarify the case, a field investigation could help find other witnesses who observed the same phenomenon. In the meantime, the case is provisionally classified as "C", indicating that more information is needed for a definitive assessment.
