Summary

On September 13, 2011, around 11:15 PM, the French gendarmerie was contacted by witnesses who observed an unidentified object in the sky. According to reports, the object had an oval shape and displayed three distinct lights. Initially stationary, it then moved slowly northward. The witness first thought it was the star Mira Ceti, but this star was not visible in the west at that time. Eventually, it was identified as Arcturus, a very bright star that sets in the west around 11:30 PM. Like other bright stars, Arcturus takes on an orange hue at sunset and flickers intensely. Astronomical data confirmed that the observation matched this star, resolving the case as identified.
