On November 6, 2011, a witness in Ville-du-Bois observed an orange, slightly dull ball, about the size of a pinhead. The object appeared stationary in the sky, though its altitude was hard to estimate. After a few seconds, the witness looked away and upon returning his gaze, the object was gone. The observation lasted about 10 seconds and no other witnesses were found. Investigators considered it could be an orange weather balloon at around 500 meters. Its apparent stillness is explained by the difficulty for the human eye to notice small movements against a uniform sky. Moreover, helium-filled balloons often burst while ascending, which justifies the sudden disappearance. The case was classified as "B"—likely a balloon.
