A witness in Gironde, France, reported in February 2012 the observation of a gray metallic, spherical object passing silently over his house. The object moved towards the south-southwest without leaving a trail and disappeared into the clouds. Although the witness described it as unusual, investigators concluded it was likely a balloon. Several possibilities were considered, such as a weather balloon launched from Mérignac or a fairground balloon released in Lège Cap Ferret. Weather conditions and wind direction changes supported the idea that the object was not an unexplained phenomenon, but a common balloon carried by the air. The case was classified as "B", indicating a probable balloon observation.
