🇫🇷 GEIPAN / CNES
On the night of March 12, 2012, a witness in Auenheim (France) observed two groups of red, cross-shaped objects in the sky. The first sighting occurred at 20:00 when three objects were seen moving from west to north. Later, at 22:50, the witness and his partner observed five similar objects traveling from north to east, though they soon disappeared behind trees and houses. Only one testimony was recorded. The description of the red, cross-shaped objects led to the hypothesis of traditional Thai lanterns, but the light and variable local wind did not support this. Additionally, Monday is not a common day for such celebrations, making the hypothesis less likely. No aerial traffic reports matched the description, and the GEIPAN received no other reports in the region that day. Due to a lack of precise meteorological data and no additional confirmations, the case was classified as category C.
